Syracuse Midwives provide individualized and compassionate care in a professional environment to women of all ages.

Four Licensed Midwives: Linda Lovig, Kristen Orts, Lisa Benedetto, and Yuliya Labko provide full-scope midwifery services including; birth control, gynecological services, pre-pregnancy counseling, prenatal and postpartum care, as well as breastfeeding, and menopausal care. Our office is located in downtown Syracuse in a comfortable and supportive atmosphere. We guide women through labor and delivery at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse. All services are backed up by the wonderful physicians at Associates for Women’s Medicine.

 

Linda Lovig, MSN, NP, CNM

Linda Lovig, MSN, NP, CNM has been serving women and their families in the Syracuse area since 1990 as a Certified Nurse Midwife and Ob/Gyn Nurse Practitioner. A lifelong resident of the area, Linda attended Syracuse University and Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio. Linda is a member in good standing of the St. Joseph’s Hospital and Health Center medical staff. Linda also serves on the board of the New York Association of Licensed Midwives.

Linda began her career working at the Syracuse Community Health Center from 1990-1997 and has been in private practice since then. She has attended thousands of deliveries. She is a member in good standing of the St. Josephs Hospital and Health Center medical staff. Linda also serves on the board of The New York Association of Licensed Midwives.

Kristen Orts, MSN, CNM, IBCLC, and FNP-Student

Kristen is a Certified Nurse-Midwife who joined Syracuse Midwives in December 2017 after graduating from Frontier Nursing University. She received her midwifery training in both hospital and birth center settings and has over eight years of experience as a labor and delivery/postpartum/newborn nurse. In addition, Kristen has been an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant since 2013 and has served as the instructor and coordinator of breastfeeding workshops for expectant parents. She will be completing her Family Nurse Practitioner training in late 2019 and hopes to one day provide pediatric care for children she helps guide into this world. She is passionate about patient education, shared-decision making, and serving as a preceptor to midwifery and nurse practitioner students. She is a member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) and New York State Association of Licensed Midwives (NYSALM). Kristen is excitedly anticipating days without homework when she will be able to enjoy gardening at her new home, spending time with family, knitting projects, hiking and traveling with her fiancé, and watching her five cats prowl and play.

Lisa Benedetto, MSN, CNM

Lisa joined Syracuse Midwives in May of 2018. She is a Certified Nurse-Midwife who attended nursing school at Colorado University and then completed her midwifery degree from Frontier Nursing University in 2009. She first began practicing midwifery in Boulder, Co. where she spent the majority of her adult years living in the Rocky Mountains while raising her daughter, Sierra. Lisa’s experience ranges from practicing in hospitals, independent birth centers and private homes. She is a member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) and the New York State Association of Licensed Midwives (NYSALM). Lisa has special interest and additional training in Herbalism and the use of Essential Oils specific to the childbearing years. Her midwifery focus includes providing compassionate, individual care while supporting physiologic birth and assisting women to make informed decisions. 

Yuliya Labko, MSN, CNM 

Yuliya is the newest member of our team. She attended nursing and midwifery school at Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing in Baltimore, MD and worked as a midwife in Salisbury, MD for the past 3 years. She was exposed to birth by shadowing a group of community midwives in Trenton, NJ in college and was inspired by their ability to assist women of all backgrounds with women’s health and reproductive needs. In nursing school, she worked as a nonprofit doula for inner city Baltimore clients with the Birth Companions program. She is very passionate about advancing and advocating for expansion of midwifery. Currently, Yuliya serves as a co-chair of the Students and New Midwives Committee at the American College of Nurse Midwives and the Policy Director at a nonprofit called March for Moms. When not working, Yuliya loves spending time outdoors with her husband and snuggling up on the couch with her cat Cosmo and a cup of tea!
